Today I got an email from my friend Elaine. We've been friends since we were babies. Her Dad, Carl, and my Dad were friends growing up, roommates in collage and remain friends to this day. We used to go camping every summer and we'd sleep over at each other's houses throughout the year as well. I remember it was always such a big event and it seemed like (to both of us) that we lived so far apart from each other. We'd learn as we got older and got our drivers licenses that it was really only about 20 to 25 miles between our houses. We also used to hand write letters to each other all the time and now days we both seem to get so busy that we can't even find time to scribe a quick e-mail. But, we've decided to do better and stay in touch more often. If her Dad and my Dad can remain friends for 50 years and counting...so can we!! It was so great to hear from her. I think about her all the time and although we've gone through long periods where we haven't talked/emailed much, we always seem to be able to pick up right where left off.
The photo is a picture of Elaine and her family. I think it's from 2006 so little outdated, but no matter what city or apartment I'm living in, I always have a picture of her and family up somewhere close by, this time it's in my office. It's my way of keeping her close even though we live A LOT more than 25 miles apart now.
